Mandir Temple Track

Jaisalmer, the golden city in the heart of the Thar Desert, offers more than just sand dunes and forts—it also invites you on a spiritual and heritage cycling journey through its old yet active temples. This easy cycling tour is perfect for beginners, covering just 6 km of pedaling.

Your first stop is the Royal Cenotaphs of Bada Bagh, a tranquil spot surrounded by an artificial lake and dense groves of trees. In the 15th century, Maharaja Jait Singh constructed a remarkable dam here—an advanced example of desert water engineering. This oasis was developed to cultivate green vegetables, mangoes, and a variety of fruits for the local population. However, Bada Bagh is best known for its beautifully carved chhatris (cenotaphs), each one built in honor of a Maharaja, Maharani, or Sati.

From here, enjoy a breezy downhill ride toward one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Rama. The route continues through a scenic zigzag path alongside wheat and mustard fields, leading you to a peaceful village. Engage with the warm-hearted locals and pass by a school that has produced some of Jaisalmer’s brightest minds.

A few more pedal strokes bring you to the historic Lodarva Jain Temple, located in the ancient capital of the Bhatti Rajputs. Once a thriving city, Lodarva was abandoned when the capital shifted to Jaisalmer. The temple, built from glowing yellow sandstone, is an important pilgrimage site for Jains. Its intricately carved walls feature images of Lord Parshvanath. Nearby, you can find ruins linked to the legendary love story of Moomal and Mahendra.

The final stop is the serene Amarsagar Jain Temple, situated beside a picturesque lake. Built in the 18th century by the wealthy Patwa merchants, this temple is especially enchanting during the monsoon, when the lake’s waters rise to touch its very walls.
